The factory warranty on my '06 T8 is going to expire in a couple weeks. I just got an offer from Yamaha to extend the warranty coverage on the T8 for another 3 years. I'm torn about what to do. On one hand,I've never spent a penny on repairs in 12 years of owning Yamaha outboards.. On the other hand,at $218 its pretty darn cheap for an additional 3 years of warranty.

Buy the warranty or spend the $218 on more gear?

It might be a good idea if you have the power tilt option ...
They are pretty spendy to fix ...:twocents:

Just from your comment "pretty darn cheap" says you probably have your mind made up.And I agree.

I'd have paid it in a heartbeat if I had the option. My tilt unit cost three times that.

Make sure it covers the tilt unit. The rest of those motors are bomb proof and I wouldn't pay for an extended warranty on the rest of it.

Cough up the $218.00, cheap insurance.

I will do the same when my T8 comes due.

The power tilt is considered a "normal wear and tear" item and not covered. They lump it in with spark plugs, impeller, anodes, etc.

Isn't that convenient.

I'd probably call them, and ask if a "system" an "advertised feature" on the motor completey failing is considered normal wear and tear! I would want to hear that come out of someone's mouth. Then I'd ask to talk to customer service and ask them the same question...then I'd keep my $200 and tell them to "wear and tear" their warranty.
