What the heck happened, was taking a nap and my 8 year old comes in a says, "Uh daddy, I think you need to come look at the fishing rod, its moving?" So, knowing that I just coated the wraps I run down stairs. Some how, (probably had it to tight) but one of my supports crept up and started walking up thru the finish. To make matters worse, it covered the wheels of my support. Then I notice a small fingernail mark near the handle. Matthew just had to touch it. So with the tips I have gotten from you guys, I fire up a little flame and go to work. Fixed the nail mark, worked like a charm, then I got to work on the bigger mess. So I think I got the flame to close and fryed it? I am thinking once its dry I will have to cut and redo yes/no ? if you have any tips let me havem. THANKS

That type of stand will walk if the rod isn't level and the stand isn't square or if the chuck gets loose.
You can get new O rings for the wheels.
And yes the finish got too hot and boiled or scorched. Some finishes take heat better than others. Suspect you are using Flexcoat? I had a few issues with flexcoat burning like that when it gets too hot.
For bad things that happen to finish it sometimes is better to leave it sit till it cures than sand it down flat and apply a new coat.
Nice job can't wait to see the repaired pictures

Good to know Stick, thanks for the info as usual. I am using flexcoat, I know there are others outthere, probably better. But the rod guy up the street only carries flexcoat, so its easy to get for me.

Note to self: I always tape down the supports as well as tape the rod to the chuck. Really only takes a second to do and time worth spent.
Sorry for your loss I have seen this several times by others so don't feel alone.

That is a nice looking wrap too. Not to bling bling. I hope you post a pic of the final product. Sorry that it happened and I am sure it will turn out awesome in the end.

thanks FishFry I thought that to, the pic didnt do it justice, neither did the frying epoxy. No worries tho, already have it stripped sanded and ready to go for the re-wrap. I guess if it were easy everybody would do it

Bummer. That looks like it was a nice wrap job! Sorry that happened. Seeing all these pitures of nice wraps is making me think about learning to do more than just simple thread inlays and such. The wife already looks at all the various stuff and shakes her head . . . now I need more thread, and different colors!
Pictures when it is done?
