It may be photoshopped, but I've been seen many smallies in that position.

OK, I zoomed in like crazy- everything looks perfect to me
How positive are you guys? What would be so difficult about getting a pic of an osprey with a largemouth- they gorge on them at Crane Prairie. I have a book about Crane with a pic of an Osprey with a largemouth and the caption says something about how the Ospreys eat so many trout- he he.

Like the post before mine said, it looks like a mounted fish to me. I've seen ospreys take fairly big fish, but if they're too big the bird just lets go of 'em. I didn't zoom in on this one, either, but didn't think it necessary.

We had an Osprey take a bass about that size not 20ft. in front of us on a golf course pond here in Medford. Way coool. Could not believe it could get airborn with it.

im not saying that this doesn't happen. especially durring the spawn when some of the smaller males are in shallow water, they get whacked. but it is photoshoped for sure :D

Alright, hate to say it, but you guys are way off base. Here I was putting my trust in you guys and you're just guessing and it's not even an educated guess! :D
I have been making fish replicas for 25 years and I can tell you without the slightest doubt: that is NOT a mounted fish. That's not a paint job and no one in a million years could or would position fins like that- that's real slime, not a gloss coat and the pic is definately taken outdoors.
So you guys are all calling photoshop because the mouth is open? Wow, I hope you guys don't get called into jury duty- ha ha :flowered:

While the picture certainly could be photoshopped, theyre are so many things in un-edited photographs that look a little funny because your not use to seeing things as still images, I think too many people jump on photos too quick saying theyre photoshoped, i dont think anyone can take a cool picture anymore without getting dogged on the first response saying its photoshoped... cool picture either way

I don't know if it's photochopped or not, (and I do some of it) but I know that if an osprey had me by the top of the head I might have my mouth open and my fins sticking out too!

Seriously?......how does someone like you make replicas and catch monster bass without paying even the slightest attention to detail? hehe....j/k....but seriously.....why is there no background?.....why is the background a muddled version of the sky with no definition on the clouds?
The clincher for me though:
May I direct your attention to the sun shining on the underside of the bird.......Now may I direct your attention to the shadow on the side of the bass?
Why is there a shadow on the bass, yet no shadow on the underside of the bird.
That would suggest fairly obviously that the sun would have to be in 2 different places at once.
I am not sure how familiar you are with our solar system......but we only have 1 sun. :passout:

03-02-2009, 05:19 PM
And after giving it a 4rth or 5th look........who is taking the picture?.....someone who happened to be flying his ultralight right next to a osprey?.....a skydiver who dabbles in photography?........because we know its not someone on the water because the fish would be DRIPPING!
There are so many things wrong with this picture that I would bet I have a better shot at catching a state record smallie this year, than this being real......
One thing is for sure though.....we all need to go fishing if were are sitting here arguing over what is and what isnt photosoped!

I say it's the real deal. Look at the soft rayed dorsal, and how the tail of the osprey creates a shadow on the side of the fish. The light appears to be coming from off to the left and behind the photographer.

Ofcourse it might be photoshopped, but WHY?? Why would someone even bother? It's not like it's a pic of a dragon carrying a martian. It's an Osprey with a fish! That'll make the headlines. If you do a google images search of "osprey with fish" you'll see page after page after page of pics just like this. It looks like it would be harder to get the two pics that match and shop them together than it would be to just go snap a pic of a osprey with a fish.
I thought you guys had some cool way of knowing what's fake and what's real and it turns out there are just a bunch of wild guesses. If it's real, don't you feel slightly bad for the person who took the photo?
It might just be fake, but if we're calling it a fake because it has fuzzy clouds, or we can't quite work out the shadow details, or the mouth is open, then the majority of the ones on Google are fake, too.

Ok dave.....you win.....but I googled and the other ones out there are of a completely different level of realism....they have almost absolutely nothing in common with this pic.
I will say though....that you make good points about why someone would fake a fairly common occurance......and I did find that almost all pics have the bass with an open mouth.
Maybe the pic just looks ridiculously fake......yet its real.
One more thing I found in common was that our picture on ifish appears to be taken from a common elevation, and all the ones on the internet are obviously taken from below, or above where you can see the water in the back drop, or you are looking up at the bird with sky in the backdrop.
In our photo....you have no water, and yet the pic was taken from level, with no water dripping off the fish. Kinda kooky.

Except mine of course.:D:D
I actually think the ospray/bass pic looks pretty cool. Had Mango17 said he had taken the pic I wouldn't have sturred the pot by questioning the pic but since it was taken by someone none of us know I had no problem having fun with the pic. Hopefully nobody took my comment as anything more then just having fun.
Hopefully the person who took the pic(should they ever find our comments) will have a good laugh about our post. Then again I have seen lots of pics on this board questioned and I didn't hear anyone laughing. And I am sure that Rodger was not laughing at the comments below.
I was looking up some "fake/photoshopped" bass pics and look what I found. The comments are a must read.:hoboy:
