I had my boat in at NR and luckily got it out just before they closed down. I need to get the power trim on my Yamaha T8 fixed. It doesn't raise up properly. Any suggestions for a good place to have it serviced or replaced would be appreciated.

The good news is... you can do it yourself pretty easily. The bad news is... it's gonna cost you a lot of money. You pretty much have to replace the power tilt unit.

You can try pulling the cover on the electric motor and clean up the brushes, commutator etc. and sometimes that will cure it. But in the long run you're probably out a bundle for the new unit.

For a little while you may be able to get it to raise up by repeatedly jogging the switch in the up position. Mine would raise an inch or two each time until it got all the way up.

Of course after a few months of that it was totally dead and I had to replace it.

Try Pacific Boatland in Vancouver. I bought a new T8 from them in January and was very impressed with their customer service.

This might be a stupid question but have you checked the fluid if it is low it will trim down but not up don't ask me how I know that.

I had mine replaced last year on warranty. I hope your not using the little knob to hold it up to trailer it. The owners manual warns you to use a block, transom saver or similar device, or run it in the down position if you have enough clearance.
Here was my story last year.

I use the M-Y wedge for trailering both my Yami 115 and T8. Much easier than a transom saver.

Sounds like its open wallet time ...:hoboy:
I picked up a My-Wedge for my T-8 as soon as the company told Me not to run it on the stop pin , before that I used a chunk of Madrone branch across the brackets ...
It sure would not hurt to call customer service about it and see if you can guilt them into any help ...:twocents:

Mine went out this weekend on my 2001 T-8. It was working fine then in went in to the usual problem. It will only raise if you quickly cycle the button. Can these pumps be rebuild or do you have to buy the entire replacement? I noticed that the part number changed so maybe they have fixed the problem wwwith the new pumps

Try the Yami dealer in Hood River! I've had the best service from them. I would sat no to Pacific Boatland!! Been ripped off enough from them.
