I have a 115 hp Suzuki with a tiller handle....my question is, i was under power running up the river at almost full throtle and "BAM" next thing I know i'm flying to the front of the boat. I think what happend was the boat kick into reverse. Is this possible and has anyone had this happen? I'm 90% sure I did not hit a rock or something to bump it or hit it.

A sudden loss of power in forward can do the same thing ...
Sometimes the springs are not enough to keep the bucket in place ...
A bungee cord rig is a common fixit to keep it in foward without mishap ...
Heres a thread on the subject ...

I'm new to the jet game, but the person who sold me my boat put a rubber bungi on the tiller handle to keep the motor traveling forward. He told me this is a common problem with tiller jets and can be caused by a sudden change of currents.

I made an aluminum latch that holds it in place, it was very easy to do. I'll try to post a pick of it today, its too hard to describe.

If this is such a common problem how come it hasn't been addressed by the manufacturers?

A properly adjusted gate will not jump, except under the most extreme circumstances. I run my sled probably 10 months a year and I think it may have slipped once a couple years ago. There are instructions in your owners manual from Mercury or you can probably find them online from Outboard Jets.

The older ones have a different design for the linkage, even adjusted correctly they can slip.
