I am interested on the performance of the Suzuki 175 on the 21ft North River Seahawk. I will be using mostly on a lake at 2000ft of elevation. I guess it will lose at most 10% power which brings it down to just under 160 HP. Also, does the fact that (all things being equal) the Suzuki has larger displacement (relative to yamaha) make it plane easier to a Yamaha outboard of equal HP. Or.....is HP just HP and displacement does not factor in to getting on plane?

I had a Df140 on a 20ft Thunderjet. I was amazed at the power loss up at Diamond Lake (5k feet I think). 2000 ft shouldnt make much too much difference. Yamaha doesnt make a 175 4 stroke but their 150 is rumored to put out about 160. Lots of guys on here run a 150 on that boat and seem very happy.

For what it's worth, I notice some power loss when I take my 175 SJ to Wickiup (4300ft). But it's not enough that I can't pull a skier up without jerking his arms out of their sockets (if I wanted to). :D
You may not notice any appreciable power loss at 2000ft.

I have a 21' seahawk with a suzuki 175 for power. There is not enough power loss at 2,000 feet to worry about. We like to fish and wakeboard on the central oregon lakes and there isn't a noticeable diffrence in power when wakeboarding. The boat is almost always heavily loaded when we're wake boarding (5 kids and 4 or more adults and related/non related items). If you have any questions about the boat/motor combo you can pm me.

The "ballpark altitude power loss rule" is 2-3% per 1000 feet of elevation.
I doubt you would hardly be able to tell any difference on the "seat of the pants dyno".

I live in central oregon and run a 20 foot northriver with a honda 150. There is a huge difference in performance between cultus lake and when i fish at the coast. That being said i think that 175 is a good all around power plant for your boat you probably wont notice much difference at 2000 ft. Even at 4000 you will notice a difference but will still be happy with the suzuki 175.

If you carry another prop with a little less pitch, you will notice even less of a difference when you go to a higher elevation!
