I'm taking my Dad flyfishing next week. He is a novice at best. We have float tubes and a tent trailer and want a scenic place with catchable fish. Any word on Davis Lake or the other central oregon lakes? The more detail you are willing to share the better chance I can get Dad to have a good time. Thanks!!! graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I am not sure Davis lake is a good place to take a novice. Other places that might be worth looking into would be Hosmer and East lake. They are both scenic and I think are easier to fish. Can't really give you details like I would like, but have not been to either this year. Call SunRiver Fly shop (541-593-8814) and they can give you the heads up on what and where.

Davis lake is blown most likely for the first part of the Summer at least. No water. I went two weeks ago saw water and went. We paddled around in 40 mph winds in two feet of water for two hours before we called it a day. You can walk all the way across the middle if the muck isn't too deep. We stuck our 'toon oars in the water maybe 20-24" before hitting bottom. It sucked.

I spent the weekend at Gold Lake. Good camping and pretty good fishing.

Gold Lake is a secret spot. Don't give away that info for free. I heard once in the near future around Mayish if you were willing to hike the snow, fish were being slayed. Drag bellybutton lint on a size 12 bass hook and the fish will hop into your 'toon to save you the trouble of fighting them.
