I just took delivery of a new Garmin 160C color fish finder I got on Ebay for $179 . Owners manual says I need a "Speed sensor transducer" to get speed. How can a transducer get speed readings? I don't understand technology I guess. My Humminbird had the paddle wheel. That made sense to me. At any rate I cannot seem to locate this item. Not on line nor does Garmin book give any info on this item. A part number would be helpful. Can anyone direct me on this or give more info? I think it will be a good unit or atleast better than the Eagle I was lookin at. Thanks much.

Wow! tFishkisser thanks for the link. The transducer my unit came with is a dual beam 200khz/80khz. The unit you linked me to is a single beam but all else is right. I could not find the speed, temp depth transducer with dual beam on the Garmin web site. Seems like I should be able to. At $108 that is alot of dollars. Who might have this locally and is there a market for my never used dual beam Garmin transducer? Thanks again. You folks are amazing.

Check out Airmar Technology Corp. They are the transducer manfacturer for most Fishfinder (Garmin, etc..) producers.

Airmar's P66 (transom) or B744V (thru-hull) models are compatible with Garmin, offering Speed/Temp/Depth w/ 50/200 kHz @ 600w Very nice unit that will a significant upgrade from OEM transducer

Search on Garmin @ the below link:
