Decided to change the fuel/water separator today and I'm glad I didn't have to find out the hard way (on the water) that it wasn't a very well thought out place to mount the unit.

2008 Thunderjet Luxor O/B, 20 ft.

Pic 1 is the view from the in-floor fish box. Note the cross member under the filter. Filter is partially unscrewed to show part numbers.

Pic 2 is an overhead shot to show the lineup of that cross member.

Without unscrewing one side of the filter mount and twisting to one side, there was not enough room to remove the filter as installed.

This is just a heads up for anyone that hasn't actually replaced their filter yet. I have always had a spare on board, but had no need to replace it until today.

Undertaker you are my hero!! A boat only a year old and look at the rust on the filter! That says you don't let the boat sit in the driveway very much. You use it!! :applause:

My filter was mounted on the engine block in the dog house and I had to reconfigure the bracket and cut a piece of floorboard out to make it changeable in any situation ...:twocents:

I mounted mine own. It's where I can get at it.

is it me, or does anyone else find it odd to have a bilge pump and a Water/fuel seperator IN your fishbox?

The 'fishbox' is only separated from the rest of the bilge by a couple of crossmembers. It's not a sealed compartment.
I don't use it unless the 170 qt. cooler is full.
There is a small, self contained box in the bow.

Thanks baitsauce. It does get used. Exclusively in the salt.
Been chomping at the bit to get out for some bottom fishing this year.
Need a salt fix until halibut and tuna start up.
