I am headed to the Crooked for a few days to give my grand son some fly fishing lessons and hope to get him into some fish. Has anyone fished over there latley? If so are they hitting the usual nymphs hares ear, scuds, cronimeds, ect. Thanks in advance.
I will also be taking my boat to fish the lake we have always been able to do pretty good up there. My youger grand sons will be coming up later in the week along with my other two sons and there families. I hope the weather holds it should be a great time. This will be about the 25th year that we have made this trip in the spring.

I'm green with envy Pursuit,
I've only been Fly fishing for a couple of years and don't get out nearly as often as I'd like to.It sounds like you've got the bases covered from what I have been reading in the reports. I haven't made it to the Crooked since last fall. b I've been trying to get back over there for a month or so but things haven't worked out yet.
Have a great trip with your family

Pursuit I'll be heading over there next week-end, if you have a report that would be great. I think I will be taking my older daughter also.

Just there on wednesday. A little slow, but there are lots of fish. Flows are down and the river is low. I wasn't able to fish for long, but I did catch one on a orange crooked river scud. They didn't seem to like the hares ear much. Looked like there were midge, bwo, and possibly a march brown hatch. Didn't see much caddis hatching, but they are there. Good luck. The usual should work.

Well we are back from the Crooked, what a great trip, I was able to spend some time with my oldest grand son and got a fly rod in his hands. He is only 12 and his attention span is real short but he did really great. On his second day he hooked his first red side on a fly and the next day he got another. He did spend a lot of time untangling his line but he did it all by him self. The fishing was pretty good with most of my fish being taken on BH prince nymph and cronimide nymphs. Not much going on in the hatch department as the weather and temp did not cooperate.
On the way back there is a spot on the Deschutes that I always wanted to stop and fish so I did and I managed to hook two real nice red sides that broke me off. Oh well they will be there next time.
All in all it was a wonderful 5 days and I can’t wait to get back!!!!

So this is a little late, but here's some info. Went to the Crooked last Sunday afternoon. Fished just below the dam, did ok, not great but very few people seemed to be catching any.

I had the best luck with orange. The only problem was the only thing I had in orange was a few scuds and my strike indicator, which is fact recieved more hits than my fly did :hoboy:

I did hook a few though, every time I put a dry scud on and let it float on top I would get a hit. Sometimes see two go after it and knock each other off. :hoboy: All in all it was a slow day on the Crooked. It even rained

Had a good time though that's the important thing.
