Just wondering if anyone uses streamers? Any favorites? And for what species? I used to use a Black ghost with great success in Utah on the FAll migrating Browns. these were pretty aggressive fish! Seems like a likely patterns for searuns or steelies......hm?...

I like big Bunny Leeches for Deschutes Steelhead and big Redsides. They could be construed as streamers. I've heard tell the locals fish streamers in the stained waters of the Williamson and upper Metoleus with good success on quality not quantity.

The best streamer fishing I've had was on Alberta's Bow River, drifting & casting to the banks than stripping back Clouser Minnows as quick as possible.
Fishing the outflow of Yellowstone's Shoshone Lake with muddlers for migrating browns was pretty good.
But my biggest trout/char are from using hatchery-trout sized streamers on the Metolius for Bull Trout.

Garyk isn't pulling our leg on that one!
I've heard in the past and truly believe, based on my experiences, that a hatchery trout would be the ultimate bull trout bait.
Most of my bull trout experiences come from "a bit farther east" than the Metolius, but I totally outfished my bait and spinner companions with ostrich herl streamers which measured a full six inches in length. Those guys aren't interested in hors d'oeuvres; they want steak! Nasty cannibalistic types. Even when they missed the fly, the excitement of seeing them slash and miss was a pretty big thrill (we're talking 20-inch-plus trout here. )
My less purist buddies changed their tactics in subsequent seasons: they went to diving bass crankbaits in LARGE sizes. Good thing the no-kill rule came into effect when it did.
Other than that, Haig-Brown's Silver Brown bucktail has been a good one for me on coastal cuthroats (which it was designed for,) and other trout as well. It's a good, general small fish imitation which seems to work when big fish are in the market for smaller fish (like lunchtime every day.)
And when everything else fails, throw the R oyal Coachman Bucktail at them.

Paddlefish: You must have read my mind! I appreciate the tips from everyone! Like I said above, in Utah, in the fall, we used to sling Black ghosts at the LARGE brownd ascending the river to spawn. Boy, theyd grab those like barbells in their mouths! Sold me on streamers for large trout..and of course the searuns...well....you are quite right there too. I think Ill tie up a few for this season. An old friend of mine used to fish the S Fork Snake with a big 6-8 inch duck quill streamer! The wings were Duck quills!! Interesting.......Hmmm
