Just found out that my 90hp. is shot and need to repower. there is a possible replacement on a good used motor at a good price and in good condition that will work on my 17' Arima. Probleum is that it is a 150hp. and over rated for the boat. I was told that the extra weight is not an issue and that if I was careful not to excede safe speed that it should be fine. I also checked with my insurance and they said 150hp would not effect my coverage. I would appreciate any thoughts or comments(has anyone else done this with there boat) etc? I'm trying to stay practical with expence as well as safety and re-sale issue if I want to sell it in the next couple of years.
Thanks in advance !

why would you want a 150 for that boat a 150 would work for a 20 foot boat all u need is a 115 or a 100 don't go ant higher cause the weight and thrust power will crack the transom iv'e seen it happen good luck. get a 2 stroke also it will weigh less that a 4 stroke:twocents:

Overpowering your boat is an insurance and liability issue. If you are involved in an accident, your insurance may not cover you. It's not a good idea to overpower.
