I want to tie a few egg patterns for Alaska using plastic eggs. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions were to buy artifical eggs. I would like to find those with thread between each egg if possible. Thanks, in advance, for your help. Wes.

The best plastic egg imitation I've found is one I make using a hot glue gun, and colored glue sticks. These can be purchased from Cabela's if your local fly shop doesn't have them. They work great alone, but really shine as a head on egg sucking leeches, as it holds the entire fly together. Give it a try!

I always used small or appropiate size plastic beads. Then I heat the hook (small) on my kitchen burner. Then melt the hook into the bead. Looks great. I get the nice deep red beads. Make plenty in case they fall off.

Please use needle nose pliers and not your hands for the above manuver.

The very best egg imitations out there are the orange transluscent beads in 6-10 mm size. Paint them with nail polish. In Alaska the paint put on the beads is as secret as the special egg cures used down here. I know a lot of guides that won't reveal there special mixes. Usually anything in the beige color range will produce fish.

yeah, I was blown away by the guides in Alaska. They are so sure that their eggs are the best and the color has everything to do with it. The thing was as far as I could tell they were all about the same.

I tie for Rainbows End Flies, if you want bulk eggs you can call John at 503 771-1200, they are the soft ones on yarn. I will try to post some pics in a week or two.

I agree about John's eggs. He was the one I was looking for. Saw his products at the sportsmens show. I will be in contact. Drifter.
