The other night I was watching the Antiques Road Show and there was a guy in Boston with a box of 200 1870s salmon flies: What colors! I dont think I even see those bright colors today. Now Dave McNeese of Salem used to dye his own materials and they were WOW! Does anyone know of anyplace to get brilliant dyed feathers and furs, etc for making copies of these fishing jewels?

Thanks Aaron:
Those are good reasonable approaches. I will have to look at Creekside again. I beleive they try to maintain the "Mcneese" tradition, but, its hare without "little Davy"

Check on Steve Burke's webpage- www.salmonfly.net. (http://www.salmonfly.net.)
One of his guest tyers is from Mehama, Oregon, and I think he has access to some more colorful materials, or at least can point you in the right direction- Mike Boyer.

Creekside in salem had nice stuff the last time I looked. Also got some nice stuff from John Shewey, I don't know if he still sells though. Or you could try dying yourself. The book by Mike Radencich goes into great detail on using acid dyes and other types of dyes. Very helpful if you like to attempt stuff like that yourself.
Good Luck

Yeah, I'd rather give my money to Rich at Creekside then "Little Davy" Dave screwed me twice when I was in High school. Once on Jungle **** necks, and the other on a Commercial fly tying job I did for him. I had to have my dad take me down there to get the necks, and I never got all my money out of the fly tying job, He just gave me some crap materials for that :depressed:
I sure like the looks of his reels, but I bet I'd never see one, If I sent him a check.
