Hello all. I am a new Ifisher. Long story short.. Grew up fishing Oregon and Alaska for Salmon and Steelhead. Due to work i must live in Idaho. Man do i miss the after work race to the river!!

My First topic i post is concerning Spey Rods. I recently have started picking up on fly fishing. I would really like to be able to target steelhead on the Grande Ronde or wallowa. Also i fish the South Fork of the Snake a lot in the fall. I use a 9ft 5 weight Diamondback. Lets just say the old shoulder gets a work out!! Any info would be great.

SteelieNinja,
Welcome to ifish! You'll find a lot of great information and people here. Give the "search" button a try and type in "Spey" or "Grande Rhonde". You'll get a lot of information on rods, lines, casting, runs, fishing techniques, etc. It's a great place to start your research.

I mostly like the older slower action rods. My favorite rods are my Sage 7136 and 9146. I pretty much leave a dry line on the 7 weight and tips on the 9 weight. I'm personally not a huge fan of skagit setups, but I understand why folks like them. It's been a while since I bought a new rod so I'll bet some of the other folks on the board will be able to give you better info on the latest and greatest available.

Again, welcome to ifish!

Hey Steelie,

Welcome to the Ifish board. Some of the advice you receive here will be a bit misguided (mostly from those that don't agree with me). It will be your mission to determine what is good advice and what is not... Now that's fun.

Good luck in Idaho.
