View Full Version : First two steelhead on the spey!
Was able to hook and land my first two steelhead on a spey rod yesterday on the Sandy. Both fish were hatchery and new to the river. Awesome job by my guide Marty Sheppard/Little Creek Outfitters.

Congrats! I've heard good things about Marty. What a great day to be on the river. Did you guys float from Dodge to Oxbow?

Congrats...and I was thinking of floating the Sandy Sunday. Guess not, it will be crowded now.
That 2nd fish is a dandy.

Way to go! Marty is the Man!
I recognize that secret little river left spot there. We swung it today and didn't touch a thing. Great to see someone is hooking up out there!

Marty is dope!
It's tough on the Sandy right now. Great job by Marty getting you into two fish. Fact is he is a fish magnet. I hooked up two weeks ago just because he was standing right next to me giving me casting tips.

Woo Hoo !! Congrats !!
I did the spey casting clinic several years ago with Mark Bachman. Cast a few tangles, some awkward casts, and an occasional thing of beauty. And I caught one nice steelie.
Someday I'll add a spey rod.

Way to swing for those two good looking fish. Serious chrome did they put up a good fight?

Yea both fish were real fresh, but I think the buck pulled a little harder and longer. Just crazy to catch them back-to-back. Also had a tug before and after these fish.
