I thought i would introduce my self. Name is Jason, I am new to portland area, I go to school out here. I am originally from Montana, grew up fly fishing the missouri and surrounding areas. I have trout fished from Montana, Idaho, washington and Colorado, now its Steelhead time. Have got into a few salmon (coho and kings) and trout here on the fly rod but yet to take a steelie. You guys have a suggestion what kinds of set ups you use on the coast? Mostly swinging or indicator fishing, and do you use a double fly set up? Thanks for any suggestions.

Welcome to IFish. You left some beautiful rivers behind in Montana, but there is some nice fishing out here, too. And there are some people on this board who actually catch fish. Others of us practice casting more than catching.

Welcome to the Northwest Jason. If I wanted to catch a Steelhead close to Portland (I don't know where you live) I would watch the Sandy and the Clackamas real close over the next few weeks.
If you want to drive towards the coast, there are some more options.
Good luck.
