Let me be the first to welcome you to iFish.net! You'll find lot's of helpful information -- by searching past posts and asking questions to the group. I'd start by searching past threads using the "search" button on the tan bar next to "new posts".

A tradition here is that as soon as you join, you offer up a fsihing story so folks can get to know you -- so? :D

Yeah the guys on here like stories. If you can't offer us up anything just tell us about the last time you hit a deer with your car...that would work.

As for the rod setup, like any hobby in life, that depends on what your definition of "inexpensive" is. Some will say that for the cost a good Sage fly rod will do, however that would break my bank.

Honestly if you want good materials at a descent price you could always go down to Joes. Look at the materials and check the rod guides, see if the backbone is too strong or too soft. I still have a good 4 weight I got from G.I. Joes back in the day; it is my backpacking rod and gets beat up pretty bad but never fails to land a beautiful Golden in the high sierras.

Welcome!

I picked up a 5/6wt wal-mart special for $40. Not much money lost if you decide you don't want to flyfish anymore.

What are you after?

Steelhead?
Trout?

Where will you be fishing?

Big rivers?
Small river and creeks?
Lakes?

You gotta help us a liitle here!! :D

Next, what's a comfortable budget?

There is no max to fly rods/reels. My spey set up is over $1500. But a great one hander combo can be had for under $200 easily. $100 for more of a starter setup could be more what you're looking for, for now.

okay.for story i have my first salmon ever caught.it was a huge chinook.it was the last cast of the day and i was getting frustrated cuz i had spent most of the day on the river without a bite.everyone around were just slamming them.so i casted close to shore and i kinda bird nested my reel so i was there picking at it, and when i was reeling in the slack, i felt something tug on my line.my first thought was, "dang, i must of had gotten snagged on the bottom," so i pull back and all of a sudden, BOOM!!! my line starts peeling and i'm "holy crap!!!! it's a fish!!!!!!! and about 25 mins later in comes a huge nook.not sure how big, but i'll try to post the pic on so you'll can hopefully enjoy. :]
