has anyone fished the klamath river in the winter? i am in k falls and i would like to get out for a day on this extended weekend. right now the water level below keno dam looks really good a steady 750cfs. the boyle dam stretch would be unfishable, they let out 2000cfs during the day then only 350 at night. that has to be great for the fish. but the klamath seems to be the only river i know/fished before that is open right now. the regs name some creeks that are open year round but i have never heard of them and wouldnt even know where to start. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Big weighted leech patterns under a large drift bobber . you will need a 7 or 8 wt to cast and mend , don't even atempt this without cleats or spikes , always fish with a buddy and a wading stick . the keno stretch is some the toughest wading you'll ever do but when you hook a 25 inch wild redband its a kick . please !!! don't kill any fish and be careful . watch the water temps on the usgs site and fish when the temps are coming up .

I have done well on that stretch of river just casting off the shore with a rooster tail or something like that. if you go out highway 66 past keno drive off the bank right under the big power lines and that road will take you right to the river. be sure you have a capable 4x4 though the road is pretty rough. it is not that long a walk either though. some other good fishing opportunities are ice fishing at lake of the woods and gerber reservoir. the link river is OK as well if you are patient enough.
