Tying Roundtable

This is something that we used to do among a few members here. I have seen a few people gloss themselves as "newbie" fly tyers and thought this may be fun to do again.

The idea is this:

A bunch of us get together in a place that allows us room for vises, etc. Then we tie some flies. This could also be a place that serves adult beverages and allows us to tell fish stories.

Typically in the past I was able to get some guest tyers, etc but with the knowledge here; I would like to have each person who attends to pick a bug and do a psuedo tutorial.

We can choose a night and do it bi-monthly. What do you guys think? Based on the responses I can start to put this together.

I'm in favor of starting up the round tables again. We should think of both westside and eastside locations to give everyone more opportunity.

I'll attend when I have no conflicts, but most of my flies are embarrassingly simple (but they do catch fish).

I wouldn't mind drinking a few beers and tying some flys. I'm in the same boat as Andy but I'll do my best. Count me in.

That's a pretty good response. I will look at getting dates together and throw some ideas out on times as well. The next logical questions are:

1) What day of the week works best for everyone? (the majority will rule)

2) If we were to use both an East and West location, what would they be? I know thta Don form River City would most likely offer his shop but I would like to try and find a place that we could order food and drinks. Anyone have connections to local establishment that we could patronize?

After we determine the locales and dates we can launch the Roundtable. Looking forward to getting this going again.

I have been hoping hook up with a group of fly tiers! I'm a beginner myself ... but have a vise and materials.... it would be great to share stories and get a few tips to improve my wraps.

On the east side... I've attended Trout Unlimited meetings at the Lucky Lab Brew Pub on SE Hawthorne. They have a back room that could work. Plus ... food and drink! Anyone know more about that spot?

So it's looking like we are going to call this Thursday nights at 6:30pm and try and do it twice a month. If it continues to be a sucess and more people want in we can grow as nessesary.

I am a member of this site and also an employee of the Wichita Pub in Milwaukie and I ytalked to my boss about a location as we have three on the East side one in Milwaukie, Oregon City and Clackamas he said he woul dtalk to all three and see if we could set something up. Would work as we have the space plus both food and adult beverages are available. Will get back to you with more details when I have them. Let me know if you are interested in these locations.:meme:

We have a location secured for the Eastside but I am still looking for one on the Westside. Any ideas? I am going to approach the owner of the Hot Seat in Tualatin and I think he may be good with this. Let me know if any of you cna help get this going.

Another place to consider is the Round Table Pizza on Barnes and Capital. They have a "banquet" room and beer and pizza. Plus is close to the FWY for easy access. 10070 SW Barbur Blvd, Portland, OR‎ - (503) 245-2211‎

No affliation with them, but live near there and see different clubs meet there occasionally.

I will help in any way Ican just let me know what you need one of my buddies and part owner of Wichita lives in Tualatin and knows a lot of places on the west side would be more thasn happy to ask him for suggestions. Round Table Update:
It looks like we have a go for Wed March 11 @ 6:30 PM at ht Clackamas Wichita on Hwy 212 across from Fred Meyers, the first meeting will probably be a meet and greet all interested are invited.
