Well we finally finished the trip that was cut short by the hook in my finger on Sunday out on Crescent lake. Friday's forecast looked perfect. A chilly 13 degrees at the ramp, 3 or 4 other boats on the water. One was Hookjawfreak's partner Jordan who said Dan (hookjawfreak) was in Portland. Bummer for him, he missed a gorgeous day! Doug (bendfishn) and Brian (slamminkokes) joined me for the day. We had a banner day. I got the 1st fish about 15 minutes in.

A little while later I nailed a real pig. I had the hot hand and hot lure early. After I caught 6 of the 1st 7 fish on that lure we started to pass the hot lure around and everyone got a fish on it. All but 3 fish were caught on the 1 lure. We even had to replace the trailing hook on it after it got mangled by 1 of our big brutes.

Then Doug got a nice one.

The weather started to warm up and we were shedding clothes quickly. The fishing action was just warming up too! Brian finally got in on the action.

Then I finally lost one, the only lost fish of the day. Doug hooked up again.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/IMG_01654.JPG (http://www.ifish.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/90824/size/big/cat/)

Then Brian landed the biggest hog of the day, 37" and just a hair under 20 pounds.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/IMG_01662.JPG (http://www.ifish.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/90825/size/big/cat/)

The day just kept getting better and hardly a ripple on Crescent lake all day. Just beautiful!!! The last fish of the day was caught by Doug and we were trying to get a picture, but this fish had a nasty attitude, he did not want Doug's hand anywhere near him and he jumped out of the net and swam off just as Brian was getting the camera ready. I guess we had enough fish pics already.
http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/medium/IMG_0167.JPG (http://www.ifish.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/90826/size/big/cat/)

We got nothing under about 9 lbs and a total of 15 macks to the boat. One of my best ever days on the water for macks on a stellar December day. Now the Forest Service can lock the gate, I'm happy to finish my mack season with this haul. Please don't sweat the blood on a couple of these guys as we did keep 2 fish since neither Doug or Brian had ever kept or eaten one. Normally my macks get released in good condition to swim away straight back to the bottom.

Great job guys. What a way to top off the 2008 trout season! BTW Joe, noticed you were wearing a nice, thick, pair of gloves in that first pic. Any special reason for that or were you just making a fashion statement? :smirk:

........well Padre, for some reason the twirling hooks made me a little nervous for the 1st few hours. I never took my eye off them till they were free from the fish and out of the net.:D The 13 degree air also played a role. Thanks for noticing.:flowered:

I gotta say, Joe de man! :applause: Thanks for your generosity and teaching me all your secrets

That was a great day on the water, and my first Mack, or Macks I should say. :meme:

That lure (to remain heretofore unnamed ) was slammin' them in. It's likely that the gate on Crescent was locked at the end of the day yesterday... don't really get that, if there is no snow and still good fishing?? Anyone, Bueller??

I beleve you started a bidding war on ebay for the simpson lure. and the reason they lock the gate is because if they wait any longer they can't get the Lock to open.

Absolutely :jester:

I don't think it was so much the lure as the nifty little place provided to add your special blend of either doughnut or beer scent

Good stuff, I almost lost a mouthfull of soda when I saw that thing :D

Excellent work, Joe and company!!! I so rarely lower the riggers to target those big beasts of the deep, but this post is inspirational to say the least. It was nice of you to let Jordan in on the deep water action you guys were getting and him and his dad ran with your advice and stuck a boat load of nice mac's as well.

I got a call from Jimmy this morning and he was on his way to try for some mac's at Crescent after getting scorned by the browns at "another lake".

Go Jimmy!

Nice trip and great report Joe! I am disappointed that you'd offer up a half truth though. You conveniently left out the key to making the Homer plug work -- a gang troll made with large aluminum blades cut from Duff Beer cans, 24" of leader, then Homer. C'mon dude.

Looks like the wiley old Joe has one up on you. The decoy lure always goes on the rod "accidently" left in the background of the photo. Never underestimate a guy with a pipe!
