fish-on-bend

Well we finally finished the trip that was cut short by the hook in my finger on Sunday out on Crescent lake. Friday's forecast looked perfect. A chilly 13 degrees at the ramp, 3 or 4 other boats on the water. One was Hookjawfreak's partner Jordan who said Dan (hookjawfreak) was in Portland. Bummer for him, he missed a gorgeous day! Doug (bendfishn) and Brian (slamminkokes) joined me for the day. We had a banner day. I got the 1st fish about 15 minutes in.

A little while later I nailed a real pig. I had the hot hand and hot lure early. After I caught 6 of the 1st 7 fish on that lure we started to pass the hot lure around and everyone got a fish on it. All but 3 fish were caught on the 1 lure. We even had to replace the trailing hook on it after it got mangled by 1 of our big brutes.

Then Doug got a nice one.

The weather started to warm up and we were shedding clothes quickly. The fishing action was just warming up too! Brian finally got in on the action.

Then I finally lost one, the only lost fish of the day. Doug hooked up again.

Then Brian landed the biggest hog of the day, 37" and just a hair under 20 pounds.

The day just kept getting better and hardly a ripple on Crescent lake all day. Just beautiful!!! The last fish of the day was caught by Doug and we were trying to get a picture, but this fish had a nasty attitude, he did not want Doug's hand anywhere near him and he jumped out of the net and swam off just as Brian was getting the camera ready. I guess we had enough fish pics already.

We got nothing under about 9 lbs and a total of 15 macks to the boat. One of my best ever days on the water for macks on a stellar December day. Now the Forest Service can lock the gate, I'm happy to finish my mack season with this haul. Please don't sweat the blood on a couple of these guys as we did keep 2 fish since neither Doug or Brian had ever kept or eaten one. Normally my macks get released in good condition to swim away straight back to the bottom.
