After seeing the great posts by Dan and Joe I started getting a case of fish envy. I had a couple of spare days over the long holiday weekend so I decided to use them up at Crescent. The fishing wasn't red-hot by any means but we were able to get a couple of quality fish aboard that helped offset the downtime. Friday I got a 5.5 lb Brown and missed 1 other. Sunday my buddy Jim got his first Mack and it was a beauty...........33 inches long and 15.5 lbs :passout:

Jimmy, Dan or Joe would be able to give you a better answer than me. I'm still learning a lot of this stuf and don't have anywhere near the experience that they have. They have probably forgotten more than I'll ever learn

That certainly has been a good luck charm for me this year. I owe you something for it, I'll just have to figure out what :D It's probably why I didn't get a deer this year............I failed to wear it hunting

Hey Mike---- nice job. Aren't you glad we saved those guys for ya?
As for the best time to fish Crescent, anytime from late fall till ice-up. An old mack guide from Tahoe always said that, weather permitting, December was his best month. Spring can also be good, same with the browns. Changing pressure and low pressure usually puts macks off the bite. If you look at the pics in my gallery and Dan's you will see mostly flat water and blue sky, therefore stable or high pressure. It may not be gospel but thats been my experience.:twocents:

Nice job on the lunkers. It's always good to get our friends hooked on fishing. That is as long as its not in the finger. Sorry Joe. :smirk: :bearhug:

No need for a downrigger. Especially in the fall. Some of my largest Macks have been caught in less than 20 feet of water when I was fishing for browns.
So, what's a guy gotta do to get in that boat with ya'll:flowered::whistle:????

Ditto :D
In seriousness, I rarely have an open seat on my boat. It's only a 15 footer and kinda tight. Usually only one other guy can fit in it. Due mostly in part to the layout of the steering console, storage, etc. However, I'll keep you in mind if I don't fill the seat and am jonesing to go.

Be careful around him (Ras), If he wants to tell you about "Paula".............Change the subject quickly :jester:
If you can swing a seat with any of the guys from trophytrouthunter dot com then take them up on it.............maybe even me  I've learned a ton from those guys and it's starting to pay some nice dividends. Not sure if I'll get out again until spring. If Klamath doesn't freeze then I may hit that a few times.
...........And without stating the obvious "Joe" aka "fishonbend" would be the guy to talk to about Macks

Sounds like my 20fter would sink in that sand. When does it open again. I fished browns back east and spent enough on the rapalas and planers. Would be nice to break them out again.

The beach is pretty firm. I've seen plenty of 20 ft boats get in on it including a 20+ ft Bayliner Trophy. It is a shallow launch so I'm not saying it's a piece of cake, especially once snow and ice become part of the equation.
I included some pics from March of 2006. There was only a skim of ice when we put the boat in on Friday morning, and by Sunday afternoon it had "thickened up" quite a bit. Sunday morning we had to break through a couple hundred feet of ice with breaker bars to get into open water, but it was well worth the effort for the 10 lb buck brown my dad landed just before noon that day.:meme: We caught several other quality fish that trip and we had the whole lake to ourselves. :excited:

I'll never forget the phone call from you. And then when you sent the pics I went "Dude, you're NUTS!" But you gotta be a bit nutty to do the kind of fishing we do. I LOVE IT!!!!!
