The seat boxes in my boat fill partially up when it rains even though they are closed. Does anyone have a good solution to this problem.

Drill a drain hole.

If they open from the top go and get weather striping 1/2 wide and put on the lid, should keep moisture out from above. Also may need to calk bolts that hold the seat on if it is working down thru those holes.

A tarp or waterproof boat cover , if the hinge runs full length at the very top edge of the box they are almost impossible to seal properly ...
A few pics could generate more solutions to the problem possibly ...

Thanks for the feed back. They open from the top and I think I'll first try the weatherstripping.

I had this problem with my Alumaweld boxes, fixed it by removing the nuts and washers that held the seats down. Applying silicone to the bolts and retightening everything. No more leaks

Even though mine is kept under cover, I leave the boxes open so I don't get moisture build up. Neighbor came over last night to retrieve his cat that had been missing. Cat climbed in and seat closed on top of him. He seems to be alright, but I'm hoping he learned his lesson!!!

Back to the subject, I was considering siliconing the bottom of my boxes also because when washing the boat out, water gets under the boxes. Any drawbacks to doing this?

You may also want to put a false bottom inside to keep the water under the level of your storage stuff ??

Good luck !:excited:

Drill a drain hole.

:yeahthat:

I am not sure why they don't have a drain from the factory but even opening the thing in the rain will put a lot of water in it
