Just wondering how hard it would be to find a lower unit and then to switch it out from a pump to a prop on a 1994 yamaha 115hp pump? Also if anyone knows what this would cost? Thanks for any help or advice.

Check parts prices, lower units run maybe 1500 new, less used. 100 gaskets and such. 8 hours at 80 is 1600. Adjust mounting to lower power head, 5 hours is 400
$3600 in the shop, maybe 800 if you scrounge used parts and DIY. Less if you sell the jet lower end.

8 hours to swap the lower unit, is that the shop time? Takes 15 min on my Merc.

I had the same motor and When I bought the boat used it came with a pump. I could switch from pump to prop in less than one hour. It is not that hard to do. If I can I know you will be able to in a lot less time.

8hrs @ $80/hr is $640?
Should be able to find a used or shelled motor on CL for much less. There is a write up on Boating Sportsman somewehre that I read before. Lots of guys do it based on how they use the boat that day. Guessing you could do it your self much quicker than 8hrs.

From a boat mechanic freind of mine... if you want his number shoot me a PM.
the required pieces to porperly convert from
jet to prop and back
a Bay mfg, shaft extention kit
a lowerunit for a XL shaft (25")
a 25" water tube or the 5 inch kit extension
a 25" shift shaft or 5" extension
bolts or studs to go with kit
a Stainless prop or drop engine 2.5" on transom
can be done in about an hour if not moving engine
if moving engine all depends on bolt access to lower and upper bolts but
better figure 3-4 tops
if everything is there its REALLY easy.. move shift cable from pump up to
shift linkage for prop inside cowl
(dont worry about the extra length it just makes a biger loop that can be
ignored if you have open transoms)
install lower with baykit
install prop
go play
remove lawer and bay kit to go back to pump
re run shifter controll cable down to pump
first time I charge 4 hrs to do complete conversion and setup for prop
if thats been done it generally only takes an hr or less
getting the rite prop is key cause it will lallow the person to not have
to change engine height and still be able to run a prop effectivly..

I have had one Yamaha and one Merc that were AC/DC. The first time ya switch between pump/prop it takes a couple three hours to figure it all out. After that, maybe 90 minutes if you are fat and slow (Like me).
A jack plate might make things easier, but may not be necessary. Get the water pump on both the pump and prop, so ya don't have to mess with swapping it out every time.....it also gives ya some leeway on looking at the impeller to make sure it's in good shape....and if it's not, time to get a spare and install it.

I have a 225hp 4-stroke Yamaha that I swap 2 times a year. I have a bay kit and a x-long shaft motor. The bay kit comes with all the 5" extensions for the wtr, shift linkage, drive shaft...ect. The shift cable for the prop L/U i unhook from the lever and wire tie out of the way and hook the pump cable up to the lever. To put the pump on takes about 1 hour and 1 beer. To put the Prop lower unit on takes any where from 1-3 hours by myself if I am not in a hurry and 1 beer. Just remember to grease everything.
