Well with the lack of snow it looks like some bonus weeks of fishing are available at Crescent this fall. I thought I was done, but maybe a couple more trips can get squeezed in yet. I took 2 friends out this morning for macks. Got to the launch at 8:00. 3rd boat on the water. 22 degrees and a flat lake. 5 minutes in I got a bump, then Wayne reeled in a decent mack.

Then my rod went off and I reeled in another nice mack on a jointed kwickie. With the fish in the net, I grabbed the top of the kwickie while the fish twirled the bottom half and got me back with the trailing hook.

It looked worse then it felt. I hope the mods don't pull this thread for excessive blood.:D

I felt like kind of an idiot. We could not pull it back out with the pliers, so 30 minutes into our day we were back at the ramp and on our way back to urgent care in Bend. Barbs on hooks certainly do what they were designed to do. Its amazing that a fish can spit a hook sometimes. The fish swam off with less scars than he gave me. I once took a 3 day raft trip down the lower Deschutes and this happened to one of our group. We had nothing to cut the hook or the finger, so he kept it in his finger for 3 days. We called him "Captain Hook" the whole trip.
I just know that this was going to be a 20 fish day with at least 1 over 20 lbs. But it was not meant to be.
