I Just wanted to throw some pics up of a project I'm putting together, maybe even get a little feed back. I like to fish shallow and narrow areas, and it was pretty hard to get where I wanted to go with a prop and 3 people.
The doner ski was a 1987 kawasaki sx300. From what I hear these didn't have enough power to pull anyone out of the water over 150 pounds, so I thought it would be a good one to start out on for my little 65 pound boat. It has a mariner dry pipe and supertrap muffler which should kick up the power a little bit too.
With the help of some friends, we removed the engine, engine mounts, and the jet unit. I cut out the bottom and back of my 12' sears jon boat and started fitting everything together. here is the finished product:

Here it is completely finished: (well almost, needs some exhaust re-routing and steering put together)

I need to put the steering together now and it will be ready for the water. oh, and now for some reason I have no spark at all. turns over great, its getting fuel, but no spark. checked wires, everything is where it needs to be. anyone have any suggestions? it started and ran before I chopped it...didn't cut any wires.

Looks like a fun litl cruiser :applause:...
Did you remember to hook back up the kill switch / lanyard circuit or at least disable it ...

it didn't have a kill switch...but I need to come up with something different for starting and stopping so I'll probably wire a safety one in. and I'm going to sit where the back seat origionally was in a single seat. I just need to put it in

I,m not real familiar with jet skis , but would they have a safety feature to prevent starting out of the water ... I was sure a lanyard type switch would be used as when you fell off how would you get back on if it was still running and moving away from you ???

I know the newer ones do but this one doesn't have that feature... at least not that I am aware of. I'll go take a look, could be my no spark problem, lol

Cool project, I had been considering doing this with mine once I got a bigger one.

I would not use starting fluid either , It will wash all the oil out and start scoring the cylinders and internal bearings on a two stroke ...:twocents:

make sure you got somebody sitting up front when you take her out the first time.
'There will really be a tendency for the nose of that flattie to lift and you will find yourself trying to steer with only two square foot of metal touching the water.
Check out the same set up on U-tube..the boat just scoots like a bottle rocket.
