View Full Version : Anchor Nest
I am getting some diamond plate welded on to my bow so i can fit an anchor roller on my new smokercraft what thickness do i need? Also my anchor from my old alaskan was 27 lbs or so would a promotion roller work or should I step up and get a miller. Leaning towards the miller but would it be overkill with my anchor? Thanks for the help

3/16 plate should be sufficent. Go with a Miller or similar quality design. It makes anchoring and using the anchor all that safer. It will be a wise investment.

I dont know the weight and stress, but since youre guessing. go with 1/4. You also dont need diamond plate. Youll just run into problems drilling holes and mounting it flush. Diamond is for walking on. Not all aluminum is good for welding either. Again it should match the material on the boat to use the same welding rod. The other problem is the thickness of the material youre welding the plate to. If its cast you may not be able to weld to it. You should call the mfg.
In my case the boat had a bow plate which wasnt big enough to sustain that kind of stress with a big anchor on a river. I mounted the qtr inch plate on top and cut 3/8 plywood under the lip of the bow tubing and dbolted them together and pinched anchored the materials. Then mount the anchor system on top. I mounted the fake wood to the top for an extension since it hangs over the front. I dont like it since the anchor tips want to bang the boat. working on that.
