View Full Version : GIANT Brown from Crescent Lake!!!!

This past Saturday morning, I was working around the house. As I worked on this and that I couldn't stop thinking jealous thoughts of my buddys Andy and Allen Dahlberg and their dad, Vern, who were fishing the waters of Crescent Lake. It was a bit after noon when I received the call from Andy... "Well, we've only caught 2 fish... the first was a 5 1/2 lb laker for me... and then on the next pass... Allen caught a brown... it was a hookjaw... and it weighed 16 1/2 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I almost fell to my knees! This was the fish that so many of us trophy trout hunters dream of landing, night after night. A true fish of a lifetime, and the biggest artificial (lure) caught brown of the year out of Oregon. The big brute fell for a Lucky Craft Pointer 128 in Aurora Black color.
As many of you know, I am quite dedicated to the sport of catching trophy sized trout from the lakes of central Oregon and this news literally brought a tear to my eye. Vern has been dealing with illness, and there was some question as to whether or not to follow through with this trip. They decided to go for it and the reward could not be much sweeter than this incredible fish.
Congatulations, Allen!! You have landed... and released:applause:... the fish of a lifetime!

This fish really could not have fallen upon a nicer bunch of guys. Just real fishermen having fun. No big ego crap like so many blow hards in the game of targeting big brown trout.
My hat is off to the Dahlberg team!

One of the most impressive browns I have ever seen. Congratulations to Allen and him being able to share the catch with his family. I have a couple of decades on the water fishing for browns and this fish is why we spend so much time on the water. Truly a fish of a lifetime. :applause::applause::applause:

Hey, give the guy a break. This was an awesome few moments of having this fish aboard and trying to get some photos to capture the memory before retuning it to the lake. The fish did not fight all that hard before coming to the net and it was still "hot" when it was in the boat/hands. Not to mention that Allen has caught very few, if any, fish with any great size and has not had the experience of handling them. It's not always easy with those big slimy critters. The shot with his hand in the gills was just after the fish had kicked hard in his hands and the hand slipped forward unintentionally. It was taken just a second after the "good" photo. I assure you that he didn't intentionally "shove his fist up its gills". It was a VERY noble thing to release this fish and it would be great to skip the critical remarks.:twocents:

I have to agree with Rip N Lips. Accidents happen to all of us in handling fish, but I'm not sure why you posted a close-up of the hand in the gills? Would have been a much more PC post without the middle photo. Thanks for releasing the fish!

Congrats. Beautiful fish and great story. I agree on giving the guy a break about the hand on the gills. The biggest bull trout I ever caught showed my hand in the gills and I sure didn't realize it till I saw the photos afterward. Bottom line is the fish swam off and due diligence was rendered. :flowered:

Something that just occurred to me:
If I caught a Steelhead that size, it would be a personal best for me.

I think I saw them on the same site. Congrats Allen, Andy, and your Dad! You will be lucky to see another Brown of that magnitude. Truly a fish of a lifetime.
Great pics, and I applaud you for the catch and release. I release 99.9% of my fish, but I'll admit, I would've kept that one. My hat's off to you boys! Way to go!

Maybe not the best wording, but a simple reminder should never be scorned. If I did this I would want a reminder.
