I have heard of people mounting knifes in the bow of their boats in case one needs to cut the anchor rope quickly. Does anyone have any pictures of how they have mounted a anchor knife? I try to keep one on me all the time but sometimes I just forget. It would be nice to mount a knife in a platic case, (like a dive knife) somewhere handy in the bow so that it is always there for emergencies. Does anyone have any ideas or examples of what they have done?

I simply drilled a small pilot hole into my bow (wooden with a carpet covering and then used a keyhole saw to cut a slit long enough to insert the knife blade with the handle sticking straight up.
Many boats would be unable to have that kind of fix though.
A dab of epoxy glue will stick a kitchen magnet to any surface. Glue to the boat, magnet to the glue, knife to the magnet...

In my Striper, I have a small well that the anchor rope goes in. On the underside of the hatch, I put a cleat to hang the bow line on - dries out faster that way - I ziptied the beltloop of the sheath of a sharp serrated knife to that - just grab and cut.

Good looking place to mount the knife! I'll be doing the same.

I too like the knife mount placement that jfa686 showed. Perfect spot for when you need it. I thought about mounting mine there, but did not. I mounted it down below, underneath the vertical diamond plate. Why? Well, two reasons. I wanted to protect it from the elements; but most importantly, because of possible theft. We all tow our boats around, and have to park them in places for 15 minutes to 5 hours in places where you need to be concerned about someone coming along, looking inside your boat, and stealing something that isn't nailed down/locked inside.
And I NEVER wanted to discover that my anchor knife was missing during that "exciting" time when I needed to use it. So for my tastes, I don't want to have out in plain sight for ******** and others.

If you don't want to drill holes, you can used JB Weld, a "hell for stout" epoxy glue.

As other have hinted at, I will emphasize: get a serrated blade! Absolutely essential.

i don't want to jinx myself but i too had the same thought on theft at first..it's been on for almost a year and i can think of a lot of other things on my tub that are worth a lot more $$$$ and readilly snatchable for a ******* to grab if left unattended (which is pretty much never). it works for me and it's the second thing I check before deploying the anchor..first is a PFD..
worst case scenario i pull it out allong with all my other gear.

again I hope i just didn't jinx myself:pray:!!!!!!
wherever you mount it just HAVE ONE HANDY

I also have one mounted at the STERN.

That's right - if you ever get the rope stuck in the prop, this is when you're in real danger. You'll want to cut the rope RIGHT NOW at the prop. Running up to the bow takes time, and cutting the rode at the bow wont help in this situation.:meme:

The knife I always cary in my pocket already saved us once when I was in a buddy's boat. I raised the trim on his outboard and cut the line before we got turned stern to the current at Bonneville.

This knife has thousands of miles in the ocean and has yet to fall out of the sheath. It has been on the side of the anchor holder for 4 years.

Serrated blade for quick cutting of rope.

TRUE THAT!!!! i would guess at least 5 knives laying around the stern area of my tub..anytime the CG ask to board and asks about weapons on board i tell them at no more than an arms length at anytime..they usually laugh and say they are more worried about ones that go bang

An anchor knife sounds like a great idea. I have asked the wife to put a Gerber River Mate in my stocking this year. Not bad for a 22.00 knife.

I learned from a rafting friend to always carry one on your PFD. The picture above would be a good choice for such a set up. And inexpensive too.
