I just read in the Bend Bulletin that the emergency 5 fish limit at LBC as expired and the bonus limit is back in effect until Dec. 31.

Hopefully theyll drop it again next year, 10 fish though, not 5! I like getting my 25 limits but i really liked the size of the fish this year in there! A couple more years of the reduced harvest and i think theyll be able to bump it back up!

So they already decided on the emegency limit for next year? I didnt know that! Why bother to raise it to 25 now? To take a bunch of premature fish out of the lake? Doesnt make sense to meIts at 5, not 10 for 2009. Sorry........

I heard rumor the indians for some reason wanted it at 5 permanent because they are going to start raising chinook. I wonder if it is true and what the reasonong might be?????

Does anyone fish for kokes up there this time of year? Are you catching next years spawners and hurting the natural reproduction?
I am aching to go do some fishing and chomping at the bit, cant wait til spring....

Don't see why catching them now or next spring/summer would be any different. They would just be a bit smaller that's all. And yes people fish them year round where it is open.

Most spawners are up the Metolius Arm which is closed until spring. Also the main spawnning takes place in mid-Sept early October. I read the limit is set for 5 after the first of the year. Should make for some larger fish and fatter Bull Trout.
I've fished up there all year round and had good luck with Kokanee on the other arms. Going up in February to fish. Cold but fun.

Actual Kokonee fishing is going start being very poor over all in LBC. With the new fish transpertation station the will truck the kokonee (Sockeye) down to the BIG D.
Read up on it. It's pretty neat but over all you will see LBC regulation become much tighter do to the Steelhead, Chinook and Sockeye runs starting this spring.

I believe that it isn't a emergency regulation for next year being 5, it is a standard regulation. They changed it. And lake billy chinook, lower middle d, crooked and metolius are all going to be interesting to watch over the next 5-7 yrs.

$130,000,000.00
Thats a big price tag. I sure hope it does work. Even if you got 13,000 steelhead above the dam for the next 100 years (century), it is still $100 dollars per fish. And that doesn't even include the operations and maintenence costs wich will likely be in the millions PER YEAR!
Wow! Glad its not my project. I sure would be nervious.
