I just called ODFW about the second rod stamp because there was no mention of it in the 2009 fishing regulations. Apparently it has yet to go before the state legislature as part of a new budget. From what I was told it will not happen, if it does, until 2010. Has anyone heard anything different?
I am more than a little disappointed. :(

I heard last month that it was a no go. I read some of the minutes of the meeting where it was brought up and it sounded like they were not prepared to take the time to even study it. For shame.:berry:
A strange time to pass up a new revenue source. They said they were unsure of how to check or enforce it.

If it was such a nightmare to enforce why does it work in so many other states?

Its not illegal in most states, and for the fishing types which cannot support multiple rods, it takes care of itself, with no need of help from the State GOVT.
In all honesty, its a silly rule and I shouldn't need a stamp.

Yeah that is a real shame. The limit on the # of fish should be the determining factor not how many rods someone wants to use to pursue those fish. A very dumb rule in my estimation. Let's hope they wake up before 2010.

Thanks for the heads up Brian. Good to know after hearing it was a done deal.

DANG! When I was in AZ we would always use 2 poles each for whatever we were after. It's so simple, and to me, so needed. LET'S HAVE IT!

Thanks Brian, what a bummer! My dog was really looking forward to his stamp!

Do I detect a bunch of greedy fishermen? If it did become legal for two rods, I would imagine it would be for inland lakes and reservoirs only. Not rivers or tidewater. Imagine everyboat at Bonneville or Buoy 10 with two rods per person..:passout:

No need for a second stamp. Thats why I drag my fiancee around. So I can bait the hooks, cast the rods, and then watch her pull in all the fish. Fiancee 2, Me 0. : /

After fishing in the midwest a lot as a kid, I don't understand why Oregon outlawed using two rods. The limits stay the same. Two rods does not = two limits of fish allowed. It just doubles your chances of getting a bite. That's all. It also allows you to try two different baits or methods of fishing out at once - you can fish bait on one rod while throwing lures with another.
If action is hot, chances are you're not going to fish multiple rods at once anyway - it's more useful for finding out what's working to get the fish biting.
I had a fish take a rod from me once while fishing two at a time. I had just cast one line, and set the rod down to bait up the second, looked back and went "where'd my rod go?". My dad didn't see it go. I looked out into the water and it was heading for the center of the lake. Ran out into water thigh-deep to retrieve it, even landed the 5lb drum that tried making off with it. At that point I no longer saw having two lines in the water at once as being wise at that time. We knew what was working, the action was pretty fast (I also learned that if you don't have a solid rod holder available, at least put a heavy rock on the butt end of the rod to make it harder fo rthe fish to steal...)
I definately would like the opportunity though to fish two rods. Just like night fishing - it doesn't require any more fish-cops to enforce (kind of like the argument that raising the speed limit would require more highway patrolmen to enforce the increased speed limit - which is bunk.) If ODFW wants more revenue, they'll eventually let you buy a second rod stamp.
