I have a 1975 115hp Thunderbolt Merc that is having troubles when I tilt it up out of the water...I have to push the button multiple times to get it to engage. When it does engage it comes right up, but sometimes I have to push it numerous time to get it to raise. I was running on a weak battery if that has anything to do with it? My other question is does this motor have a alternator? At one point in my day I ran wide open 8 miles upriver and still had to put the jump box on it when it was time to run back down river...thank god I brought that jump box !

Yes it has an altenator, you must have some loose connections.
A freind had to go into the box an put in new wires and tighten
things up.:)

Check for power at the solenoid, if you have it then the solenoid is bad, if not check for connections or switches. If the battery voltage doesn't increase then the rectifier ios probably bad

Sounds to me like the switch contacts are corroded.

The contacts would be at the switch. You might try a using a short wire to bypass the switch just to see if the problem is with the contacts.

I had a similar problem. It was the battery.
