I have a NR Seahawk with a Yamaha prop. Works great in the Sound, Strait and I use it in the Ocean at Ucluelet. But I'm missing some fishing and I'm toying with the idea of getting a new jet boat and keeping the Seahawk. I would use it in the lower Skykomish and Snohomish. This isnt real aggressive water, no rapids, standing waves etc. but too shallow for a prop boat.

I've seen some on the river, flat bottom, 15 feet or so and Yamaha makes a pump with 30HP at the pump. The ones I've seen seem to do just fine but I wasnt able to get the brand name.

Anybody know anything about a boat like this? Cost? Who makes them? I've checked the NR and Alumaweld websites and they dont show anything like this. Their boats are all bigger and too expensive.

Look at G3,Lowe and Smokercraft. They all make flat bottom sled/jon boats that would do what you want.

I can't believe I forgot to add Lund,and I own one.

Its the WC 14. Its not a offically a sled, but the bottom is flat enough that I wouldn't have any problems running up the Snohomish and Sky with it. I even saw a guy up near Marblemount on the Skagit in one.

I bought the Lund last year for the same reason you're thnking of. My Seahawk is just too big for some of the lakes near me.

When I worked at the boatyard in Arcata I got to run some G3 sleds with that motor and they seemed to run quite well ...:twocents:

My last boat was a welded 16x48 G3 jon boat with a 40 hp Yamaha jet. It was a great two man boat, and OK for three. The 40 hp was 28 hp at the pump which was fine on a light flat bottom. I really wish I still had that boat for duck hunting.

You are in Bothell, run over to Seattle and take a look at the smaller Wooldridge sleds. Their 16-18 ft sleds do very well with smaller HP and the chance to learn from them would help you in search.

my boys and I run a 17/60 Roughneck( by Lowe) with a 60/40 2 stroke merc. pump..great for boondogging and duckhunting..hauls a big load and runs skinny water ..wife calls it the ugly boat ...it's camo..make sure you get a wide bottom

The 90hp Yamaha two stroke weighs 40lbs less than that four stroke. If you go with a pump I'd go with a two stroke.:twocents:
