My daughter (12) has been wanting to learn how to play, SOOO does anyone have a cheap one for her to start on? electric, acoustic, or hollow body it does not matter alot. So please let me know. I am looking for something under $100 because if she doesn't stay with it it might go to one of my boys.
Thanx,
Jeremy

Hey a note of advice when buying a guitar beware of cheap guitars unless you don't want her to learn
a lot of parents go out and get something cheap where the strings are jacked up and too hard to press down thus the the child will lose interrest quickly when their fingers are bleeding (ok when they hurt with little results)
not saying you can't get a good guitar for $100 here on the boards you probably will but just keep that in mind

I agree with leftym4. but i also disagree. I started playing at an early age (9) and the lesson center had guitars with nylon strings (easier on the finger tips). The nylon strings sound terrible, (dead) If your child is serious about learning, (you'll know right away), they will get past the pain in the fingers like I did, as you soon build tough skin on on your finger tips. I bought my daughter a Fender (a leader in the industry), acoustic last year at guitar center in beaverton for $99.99 brand new. The problem with cheaper entry level non music store guitars, is that they wont stay tuned. You can also have them put softer steel strings on the guitar and they are easier on the fingers at first. There is a pink acoustic starter guitar on the guitarcenter.com web site that got good reviews by 2 people, 5 stars. It was under $100.00. I would go into their store on cascade avenue in Beaverton and let them help you out, as I am sure they have several entry level junior sized guitars. I have spent thousands there, and they know their stuff.

REMEMBER, There are cheap guitars by cheap guitar companies, and there are inexpensive guitars by quality guitar companies (fender, martin, yamaha). There is a difference. Also there are guitar (SNOBS), sorry, teachers out there that will ask you to lay out 400-600 dollars for a guitar for your kid, because they think entry level guitars are crap. A 12 year old child will be 50/50 on if they will stick with it or not. I personally have survived the inexpensive entry level guitars myself and have been playing for 25 years now. Choose your own path and I suggest you stay in your budget. A year from now, upgrade if the interest is still there. There are good entry level junior guitars out there.

My daughter started palying this year. we didnt have a lot of money to spend but I heard the same thing everyone else here is saying so we investigated. after a good deal of looking we settled on an guitar made by a small company by the name of ALVAREZ. they had two models in the store, one was only $160 and sounded fine. The other was $230 and sounded just that much better. we splurged and bought the more expensive one but I dont think we will ever sell it. look for them in a music store near you or if you get to Corvallis much drop by Bullfrog music on 3rd across from safeway.

A lot of good info there. We ended up with a Les Paul Jr, it's beautiful, plays very well and was $100 new at Guitar Center. She also bought a junior Yamaha acoustic from them, also $100 and works awesome. You won't mind paying $100 for the Les Paul as it's worth at least that much as a wall hanger! Good Luck!

I wondered why my parents let me to go from the guitar to a trumpet:shrug:.
I didn't practice the trumpet at home too much, luckily for my family, but not so good for the band teacher.
Hopefully, you'll get your daughter rockin' & rollin.'
