OK, I have a 93 Johnson 50 HP with a bad cylinder.
I was told I could use a powerhead from various years to swap out. I picked up a good used powerhead off c-list for a good price. It's an '88, which I was told would work. When I went to install, I found that the 88 used a smaller spline crankshaft and driveshaft than did the 93. I believe one is a 14 spline and the other is a 17 spline?
Anyway, I got the entire motor when I picked up the powerhead, it had a bad lower unit. I'm trying to find out if I can swap the driveshafts from the 88 gear case to the 93 gear case so I can utilize this powerhead? What other options would I have?
Finally, if this is not possible, I need a shop in the Portland/Vancouver area that could bore the cylinders out in my powerhead. I will be doing all the dis-assembly and assembly work myself. What could I expect to pay for a shop to bore out my two cylinders .030 over?
Thank you in advance for anyone that can shed any light on this subject... I'm very anxious, as you can imagine, to spend my weekends on the water fishing and not in the garage wrenching...
