Kevin- I would take a hard look at how much of the time you will be using/carrying your anchor for fishing before deciding. With the anchor in the holder it is very difficult to load onto the front of the boat. I unload all the time from the bow, I take the nose of my boat and stick it directly against the dock or shore, with the Columbia River anchor in the anchor nest it is very easy to get caught on it, and very incumbersome. I hardly ever use the anchor holder. My selection would be to get the cast aluminum rope guide that allows the rope to slide through only and is very small and add a cleat directly behind it for securing the rope during anchor. If you put a rope cleat behind the anchor holder it sits lower then the anchor holder and is hard to stick the rope in while anchoring. The anchor cleat is much safer then a know should one ever have to untie or let lose of the anchor in a hurry.

Here's what I do.... I coil my rope (about 100-150' of the 300' I carry) in a nice circle and place it on the front of the boat ready to be let out and then set the anchor directly on top. I place the anchor pulling buoy diectly behind it between the anchor and front window of my jet boat, thus the anchor can never move back and hit the window. I then place the anchor bag with about 150' of rope in front of the anchor and behind the front of boat securing everything. This keeps everything nice and tight for travel and ready for fishing when you get to the spot your anchoring.

This answer didn't help you decide whic to buy, but it may help you determine if in fact you actually want the big anchor holder on the front of your boat.

Tight lines,

Jim

If you have a larger anchor go with the Miller marine.

Motion Marine is great up to say 25 lbs, but you have to lift or pull pretty hard to get over the "hump". With a 30 lb or bigger the Miller Marine design does not have the "hump" in the design.

I like them both though.

Not sure what kind of boat you are putting this on but I have a LeeLock anchor system on my open sled and it works pretty dumb good. I like that I can interchange between my columbia style anchor and the smaller river style anchor. Only drawback is that you dont thread the line through the built in rope tightener when you may have to release on a big fish. Besides that, very nice interchangable system with only one bolt and a pin to swap between the two styles.

I have the cast aluminum with roller on my boat now with a rope cleat I am trying to get away from having to lift the anchor and chain into the boat from over the side everytime I pull it up I like the idea of having the holder for the anchor to sit in and just leave it right there and not have to lift it out from the water everytime I have about 30 lbs to lift when I pull it out after a while the darn thing gets heavy and also it will keep it from hitting the front of the boat. I think the miller marine looks like a good deal you don't have to pull it over a hump when putting it out. Just trying to get some input to see what works best. Thanks KK

We have used both Motion & Miller. We preferred the Miller enough to spend the money and give away the Motion. We could not consistently pull the anchor puller, chain and anchor into the boat using the Motion Marine without having it jump out of the roller and run down the side of the boat.

With the Miller, I can stand inside the boat in rough seas and pull the anchor puller, chain and anchor into the boat without having to worry about it jumping out, scratching the boat, or forcing me to lean over the bow to pull it back into the boat. This is because the Miller design has a larger roller and taller side guides. Frankly, the side guides could be a bit taller even on the Miller. Another improvement to the Miller that is on our boat would be to cover the gap between the roller and the end caps to prevent the rope from jumping out of the roller when retrieving the slack line.

Thanks for all the positive remarks. This change has been made probably a year or so ago on all the new ones. I can also retrofit most of my old models if you want this done.

Thanks Mike

I replaced the Motion Marine Unit with a Miller earlier this year. Found it much easier to deploy/Retrieve my anchor. What I didn't anitcipate was interference with the bow roller arm on my trailer during launch and load of the boat. Because the Miller sits farther out and lower than my old Motion Marine, I found that if I didn't have my trailer farther back into the water than I was accustomed to, as the boat floated back and the bow dropped, the roller on the Miller would hang up on the bow roller of the trailer. The reverse would happen when loading, the Miller would come up from underneath and catch on the roller there, too. Finally realized that getting the trailer deeper got the bow roller lower, too and now I can float off without hanging up. Just part of the learning curve, I guess.

I mounted the Miller on my 19 Arima SC and have found it to be very easy to use during rough seas.

I have a Miller Marine. I fish the Columbia mostly and would never go back to anything else. Pull the buoy and chain right up through safely in rough water.:applause:
