I had an engine problem while crabbing today.I called my mechanic while out and he walked me through fixing it. Turned out to be the points which are brand new. Anybody have any experience with pertronics ?Thinking about switching.

They work great but do they make a set for your boat motor? I have one set in my son 67 cougar. we switched over from a duraspark that we robbed off an earlier 70's ford. Wanted to replace the points in my old Volvo penta AQ120B but none were available.
Good Luck
Worked great for me. I no longer use it since I had to change the distributor out when the advance broke. If it is an OMC, then you will need the ESA fix shown on Pertronix's web site. Mine was in a Prestolite distributor. You can also run a hot coil with it for better spark.

I used to have constant headaches with points on my old Volvo-Penta 131. I switched to Pertronics and never had any starting problems or rough running attributable to points after that. At the time, it was under $100 and well worth it. It had a Bosch distributor as I recall. You might check at Cook Engine, they would probably know what model is right for your marine engine/distributor.

I put one in my ski boat when I installed the MSD ignition. (its a 351W). Have no problems, I would recommend. Easy to install.
