I fished the bank at Mongold from 8:30 to 12 and it was very slow. There were some fish jumping, but I just couldn't get them dialed in. I saw one boat trolling, don't know how they did. At noon a torrential downpour began, couldn't even see to the other side of the lake from the highway. I packed it up and left. Missed two bites and landed one 8 inch trout. I did see a few really nice football shaped holdovers jumping.

Seems like it's either feast or famine at Detroit this time of year. It's a beautiful area to visit any ol' time.

Reckon you might need a little 'divine intervention' by way of multification to feed that big brood of yours tonight, hb.

Definitely feast or famine. I've done very well this time of year in the past, and was lured in by the previous report. They were in there, they simply preferred to laugh at me this time.

Yes. There is an old road that goes down to the water at Mongold, and they've even expanded it a bit and painted lines for parking. There is currently construction of an improved boat ramp that goes down to where winter water levels are.

sweet how is the fishing....couple of co-workers wanted to try the late year fishing for some landlock and bigger trout....was not sure about the boat.....but maybe this coming weekend will have to give it a try

Again, it's hit or miss. The fish will be scattered, and it will be tough to dial them in. Troll SLOW. Try different depths. This time of year I start at the surface and go down in 10 ft. increments until I start hitting fish if I'm casting from the bank, and would do the same trolling. Plunking on the bottom will always yield some results. As it gets colder trolling will produce less and less. For the chinook you may want to look in the arms for late spawning fish. I've seen a few in the shallows in October when the kokes are spawning. I have no idea what time they normally spawn, though, and if they come from springer or fall stock. Yet more mysteries that the whole "work" thing keeps me from exploring.

We packed a lunch and drove up today. We were interested in the logging they are scheduled to do in the State CampGround. It doesn't look like they have started that yet...

We parked in the lower launch area at Mongold and ate lunch. They are working on something west of the Summer launch ramp. I took a few pictures from the current lower launch parking area.

This is a view looking towards the campgrounds and Kane's Marina.

Zoom in on last photo. You can see the heavy equipment working on the new project.
