I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here on the trout forum. I recently posted how my family and I had just moved to Bend and was quickly swamped with a wealth of information from Ifishers on where to go and what to do. I have not experiencd this level of generosity and sharing of information on ifish for sometime now, with ifishers giving me the heads up on exact locations, baits, and tactics, as well as even offering me open seats. I was really blown away and it truly is appreciated.
Anyhow, after scouting it out earlier in the week I took my daughter and my oldest sun up to the lakes today. We fished Lava lake and while the fishing was not "hot", each of the kids did manage a couple of trout. One fish was just over 16 inches, the others were 11 1/2 - 12 inches. There were a half dozen other people fishing the bank from what I could see, and no one else caught a fish during the two hours or so we were there. There were also quite a few boats out, but I forgot my binocs in the truck and could not see how they were doing. The weather was perfect, and i think this trip went a long way towards cheering up my boy who was heartbroken to move away from the Sandy River. After seeing a nice buck mule deer on the way in, catching a couple trout, and playing with the dog around the lake he seems to think this central Oregon stuff might not be that bad after all.
