Well, I tried to get the wife up at 4:30 this morning and go with me:D Now before you call me A cold hearted loser! I offered to compromise! I gave her an extra 15 min! Thats like really big hearted of me:whistle: For those of you that have fished with me, you know I got this thing about being the first on any body of water, well she slept in, I told her you got all the time in the world to sleep when your dead! I can't repeat her comeback but it wasn't very nice! Well I got up there and boy is it a pretty lake, took the banna barge out for it's second trip, with electric motor! I love lazy fishing, thats what I'm talking about! Targeted brookies, and couldn't hook one to save my life! Pulled 8 rainbows out and released them, biggest was almost 14" (round em up never down!) Took a half a thermos of coffee and 2 20oz redbulls with me and I had to head to the bank!:passout:I was next to one of the creeks and I look out and there are 50 to 60 brooks on their beds and I throw everything I had, no good! The water was maybe 2ft deep! All of a sudden a Bald Eagle hits one of the brookies about 75ft from me and scares me so bad I fall over a log and land on my &%*#, I'm pretty sure he was laughing as he carried off his fish!

Joe, I just may have to make a run at my favorite brookie hole, Elk Lake, this weekend...even though it doesn't close next Fri.
And when Brook trout are on their beds like that, try rubber egg clusters, with salmon-egg scent. ( That's what nailed the fish in my avatar. )

Spent a lot of time on that lake. My dad's favorite spot. In fact his ashs are up at the little lake. We always did better for brooks up there. They do move into the creek this time of year. Next time you go walk up to Little Three Creeks just a hair over a mile or under I can't really remember. Bring your toon.

Thanks for another great report joemama! I have a toon like yours set up with a minn kota also. Their alot of work to get ready, but relaxing once you get out on the water. Was that snow in your picture, I thought we just got rid of it!

Nice job! I love Three Creeks Lake but haven't been there in a long time. Thanks for the pics.
BTW, Three Creeks is a "no motors" lake. No motors means no electric motors too. I was educated on this matter personnally by a state bull and just missed recieving a citation.

I haven't been up to three creeks lake in a few years. It used to be an annual trip for our family. The last couple of times we tried couldn't even get a camping spot, had to turn around and go home. I'm with killerdave, unless something has changed three creeks lake doesn't allow any motors at all.

Thanks for the info, well noted!:passout:I looked in the regs and didn't see anything before I went, but that don't mean squat to a state bull!

Actually joe...the brookie in my avatar was only 14 inches long. I caught him in Sunrise Lake, on the White Mountain Apache reservation in Arizona, and it was the craziest day of brook trout fishing I ever had.
First of all, Sunrise was under what they call 'selective gear rules' up in Washington...meaning artificial lures and no barbed hooks. Second, Sunrise had what was known as a 'slot limit' in place, anything between 9 and 15 inches had to be released.
It was late November, and Sunrise had almost completely frozen over....except for one small section near the dam, about the size of a hotel swimming pool.
And it was wall-to-wall brook trout in there; looked almost like stocking pen. On a hunch, I had brought some rubber egg clusters with me, and a jar of smelly jelly.
It's not often that a hunch pays off like it did for me that day, it was literally a fish on every cast. I stopped counting at twenty the number of brookies I caught and released. ( Couldn't make that 15" to save my life. ) All of them were mouth hooked, so I was able to let them go, no sweat...and eventually I did get two keepers.

DBM, Now that is what dreams are made of, a zillion brookies in a swimming pool size area!
Dullhook! You can't arrest me, because you can't afford to feed me!

Thanks Joemomma,
I really think I'm going to love this site. I have a toon with a electric motor also. I took it up to Three Creeks for its maiden voyage. Less the motor. Had a great time.
By the way what size is the battery do you have on yours??

The battery is just a standard marine 12v, it lasted about 4hrs! The motor was borrowed, but I'm going to get the same motor and do some serious research on what kind of battery! I was thinking of towing a raft full of batteries tied in series, you know like 12 or 15:D

Might look into the Optima blue top spiral cell battery. I've run my 9 ft. toon for up to 8hrs with the 30lb. thrust minnkota (no wind). Also, had to title and register toon after the addition of the motor, and get hull I.D. numbers. I mounted the boat number and validation decals on a piece of plexiglass and have hanging on frame with velcro straps. Not sure if there is a size limit this applies to though...might be worth looking into before making the motor/battery investment. I have a fishing buddy fish finder mounted useing a piece of pvc pipe, and thinking of mounting a downrigger, just gotta make sure I leave room for a couple lures and a fishing pole!

Nice pics. My parents used to take me up there for about a week for the summer vacation back in the early 70's.
We would hike up to the upper lake several times, drank water right out of the spring that feeds it. It was so cold it hurt your lips. There is a channel that runs into the upper lake from the spring. It used to have what seemed like 50-100 trout in that channel.
We would rig up a double hook line with balls-o-fire eggs and usually have 2 fish on same line at once.
One time we got caught in a thundertorm up there, had to hunker down under a small tree at the south end of the upper lake till it passed. Lightning struck at the top of the ridge, it seemed like it was about 100 ft away. I was only about 12, I think I might have soiled my pants!!
I tried to go up there back in the late 90's so I could show my kids the area, couldn't find a camping spot. I think the trick is getting up there on a Tuesday or Wed.??
Was up there for a day trip a couple years ago, hiked up to the upper lake, was really upset when I saw all the camps right around the spring.
Lots of trash, seemed really used and worn. Needless to say, I didn't see one fish in that channel.
Sad to see a pristine area like that ruined by inconsiderate A**es that are to lazy to pack out their trash. Not that it was big piles, but just small stuff like candy wrappers, gum wrappers, fishin line, etc.
Thanks for the pics, they do bring back some great memories.
