Hello all! I haven't had much experience fishing the salem area and wanted to see if anyone had info on a couple of spots. I've lived here for 5 years now, but have stuck to saltwater for the most part. I used to bass fish heavily and wanted to start getting into more here. I have no boat so I'm restricted to the bank.

Does anyone know if this spot (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=boat+ramp&sll=44.929982,-123.11319&sspn=0.005423,0.009656&ie=UTF8&ll=44.928323,-123.114971&spn=0.002712,0.004828&t=h&z=18) is public access or not on the shore? It appears there is a boat ramp there, but I'm not sure. I was interested in fishing the slough there.

Also I wanted to know if anyone had any experience fishing these 2 lakes (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=44.891269,-123.14189&spn=0.043416,0.077248&z=14)
Hayden and Humbug, or if they are public or not? The spot on that map where the slough and willamette meet I fished a couple of days ago from the shore, caught a small large mouth. Looks to be a good spot, there is a small trail where Halls ferry landing is.

Well, tight lines!

The first spot is a boat launch but I think it is private. I know the Polk Co. sheriff put all their boats in the water at that spot. I have never seen anyone fishing the shore there but I have seen a private property sign posted.

As for the lakes.... I have no idea. If the lakes are public the it is a good bet that bad habit has fished it. So you might want to send him a PM if he doesn't reply to this thread.

BTW welcome to ifish:wave:

It is a tradition here that new people tell a fishing story.(the better the story the more likely you are to get help and info:wink:)

Thanks for the info!

As for a story..

A few years ago 2 of my friends and I went fishing at the Newport north jetty. It ended up being one of the best saltwater days I've had there. We each came home with a few greenling and flounder each. But the kicker was the big flounder I caught. He was exactly 24" long and 12" across. Biggest flounder I've ever caught anyway. I just found it amusing to tell people I caught a 2 foot by 1 flounder lol.

Welcome aboard! I'll be moving down to Salem next month and will be wondering the same thing come Spring. A good place to start is to search the old posts and check out the book "Fishing in Oregon."
