View Full Version : Hagg Lake getting a new dam?

I've heard from a few sources this year that the propsal to raise Hagg by 30 feet was approved, and that in the next year or two the Corps of Engineers is going to start construction on a new dam for Hagg - to be built just downstream of the current earth dam, and then they're going to remove the old dam.

I've heard talks of this going on for years, but never has it gotten to the 'approved' stage. Just like the talks of flooding Cherry Grove by daming up the Tualatin (which I don't think they'd ever do)

Anyone know if these rumors are true? They've spent so much money out there on improving hte place, supposedly building a campground out there...and now they're just going to put it all under 30 more feet of water? Lots of property owners are going to be forced to relocate or build new driveways. 30 vertical feet would flood a lot of the existing road, especially around ramp "C", the Sain Creek bridge, the Scoggins Creek bridge...and there's a couple homes over near C that would probably need docks attached to the front porch.

What's the truth?

Yes it was "approved", but it's going to take a while for them to come up with the funding to do it.

There won't be as many relocations as you would think though, as most people live above that water line already.

They're still going to be loosing a bit of property, even if their house sits above that 30 foot mark. If they're really going to do it, does that mean they're finally going to put in the marina, RV park/campground, and better boat launches? I'm assuming the whole rasing the lake idea comes from the fact that if they put in all that crap out there now, they could no longer use the lake for irrigation (and still draw in the $$$ from the campers/marina) - solution - make the laker deeper. Farmers get to draw water down still, without the huge impact to the tourist attractions. It'll be a whole new lake at that point.

There is rumored to be campground, etc with the revisions, as part of the deal for the dam.

H. The thought of a 'new' Hagg is both appealing and frightening at the same time. It's a good lake how it is right now... but the thought of all new places to try, stands of flooded timber (if they'd only be so nice as to leave some timber to flood for bass/panfish habitat) - larger flooded creek channels, the old flooded boat ramps...

Lots more territory to grow more record-size smallies, maybe some state record largemouths?

Course, it's probably 10 years from completion at this point. :passout:
