I have spent this last year fishing mostly heads. for running line, i have switched back and forth between miracle braid and amnesia. I definately like the miracle braid during the winter (better grip in the cold), but the amnesia seems to shoot better. I am interested in hearing everyone's preference in shooting lines.

I didn't have the best of experiences with Amnesia way back when when I was fishing heads. Not sure why, as I had some buddies who liked it. Maybe it was too cold when I was fishing it. I would lean toward the braided running lines myself, but still recommend flat monos to some customers based on their warm water preferences. I really like the RIO brand lines and their offerings, but have not tried their SlickShooter running lines. Anyone tried them??

I've had good luck with SA's Freshwater / Saltwater Intermediate shooting line.
I like the 25 lb, .030 diameter line.

is that an actual fly line, mono or braided mono?

Zug,
Fly Line.
I'll send you a PM with the specs since I can't post the link here. I've used the SA line for throwing heads in both salt and fresh water under various weather conditions from Mexico to Puget Sound.
The other line that I'd like to try is an Airflo Ridge running line, but I'm not sure they make just Ridge running line without the head. I haven't seen one on their website,
The ridge running line on my 40 + integrated shooting head line is outstanding.

I bet the Airflo Ridge running line is worth trying. I was sent a demo Ridge line (WF floater) and have been quite impressed with it, as long as I keep it clean.

The airflow ridge is not as good as miracle braid. I hear there is a new sharkbraid or something like that, that is better than miracle braid. Doubt it. I have not used amnesia and would never spool mono on my fly rod.

Check out Guideline's shooting line(the orange one) and the Monic stuff is Killer too. If you like the feel of amnesia then the Guideline is similar - if you prefer a standard fly line feel the Monic is good tho Guideline has multiple products to choose from.
Both of these lines have almost 0 stretch which is great when you have to set the hook 120' out. The Rio stretches really bad - prob over 20% where both the other have less than 6% stretch and are built on a gsp braided core.
