Try fishing Shears to Macks Canyon at that time.

raider1,
Most of the guides will be pretty booked up well in advance. You might be able to sneak in with someone that has a cancelation. I'd give John Smeraglio at the Deschutes Canyon Fly shop a call as he can either guide you or get you in touch with someone that may have an opening.
As far as the fishing goes, it should be great steelhead and trout fishing. Do a search on here for different patterns and techniques. You can swing flies or nymph for them. Early October can be blazing hot, bone chilling cold, or a combination of the two. I like swinging muddler minnows types, greenbuttskunks, greenbutt silver hiltons, freight cars, signal stops and purple egg sucking leaches when it gets colder. Dry or intermediate sink tips when it's warmer and heavier sink tips when the water gets below 52 degrees.
There's lots of great bank access (like 17 miles worth) below Shears Falls. Since it's the opening of rifle deer season a lot of folks should be out in the woods instead of steelhead fishing.
Have a great trip!

Brian Silvey is a good guide and I'd recommend him.
Or try the multi day jet boat trip:

I would suggest Chris O'Donnel. Had the chance to fish with him last fall in November and he was great. He's a young guy in his mid twenties but he got us on the fish. Between my dad and I we hooked 8 steelies kept 3 the biggest in the mid teens.

Looks like Tom Larimer has some openings this fall. You'd end up with Jeff Hickman who is an excellent guide. I went with Jeff this summer and he was dang good. Highly recommend him.
