View Full Version : Bass Boat Trolling Motor Wireless Remote Question

My wireless remote stopped working, so I replaced the little battery in the wireless remote. That didn't work either, so I tried the pedal. It didn't work either.
(Both do work sporadically--will turn the motor on sometimes, and adjust speed sometimes, but then just stop working and won't allow the motor to come on. It seems to work on and off at the start of a trip, then go into malfunction mode.)
The boat batteries are fully charged, and wiring seems to be fine. I just can't seem to get it to work consistently. It has the "auto guide" feature, so I've tried it w/ that feature on and off. Nadda.
I would try the boat motor tech forum, but thought I would start with the bass fishers. I guess I'll just anchor tomorrow! Bought the trolling motor used a few yr.s ago, and don't have an owners manual. Thanks if you have any ideas!

That doesn't sound good. Did you try taking the top of the head off? (the very top of the shaft there is a water proof box and there is the wireing. It goes down the shaft to the moter.) There might be a short. Something simular happened to me last year. It was a short.
Good luck....Admeral

Thanks, Ad. I'll be taking a look in there this pm, although not too sure what I'm looking for. I'll see if anything looks "fishy."

Hey Tar,
Just look for any loose wires. Pull on them if they look loose then there is your problem. MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS DISCONNETED!! ouch.

After inspecting the interior of the motor, everyting looked ok, and battery connection ok too. So, I did pull all the wiring, and sure enough, I had a bad connection(where I should have bow plugs).Doesn't really explain why it worked intermittently, but seems to work now. Problem fixed, and we are fish ready! Thanks for the tips. It's good to know where to go for electric trolling motor repairs too.
