Hi - my housemates are headed over to the Crooked River for the weekend. I have not fished it before and they are looking for a bit of advice. I searched and found some old threads suggesting smaller bead head nymphs and/or scuds.
Anyone fished it lately? Any good?

Haven't fished it for a while, but just drive up river until you start hitting some of the campgrounds (mile marker 16 or so). Adams or caddis, or #16/18 PT or HE's should do the trick

I fished it last Monday. Caught a few white fish and one trout, only fished for two hours and not very hard.
The guy at the flyshop in the industrial park in Sunriver gave some advice,
7.5 foot 5x leaders with a second fly about 12 to 14 inches behind. Small bead head flies. I got several flies from him and followed this info.
He said 9 foot leaders increases your odds of missing strikes and the Crooked is typically off color so you do not need long leaders.
I used a stick on indicator.
While I did not catch many fish, it is a beautiful river and had a good time.:)
