Hello All -

I'm looking to put together a new Summer Steelhead outfit and was looking at the G.Loomis line. Will primarily be on the Deschutes. Any input is welcome.

Current Reel 7-8wt:
Current 7-8589993.7"7WF + 175 YDS. 30#, 8WF + 150 YDS. 30#$265.00$145.0059001

and a Classic Series 7wt Rod:
FR1177-2
Length: 9'9"
Line: 7
Pieces: 2

A summer steelhead and light duty salmon rod. With a powerful multi-taper tip, it handles weighted flies with ease, and is wonderful for making consistent long distance casts. The 2-piece design is very lightweight, and serves well for your home water rod.

Also as long as i'm making my order I was thinking of getting a new reel for my Sage 5wt ... trout only.
Eastfork 5-6
558393.4"5WF + 125 YDS. 20#, 6WF + 100 YDS. 20#$175.00$90.0058904

Thanks - havn't spent much time on the fly board - so you probably wont recognize me.. been around for awhile though. thanks.!

I have the 9 ft 9 in seven weight rod you reference. It works great for summer fish and I have landed steelhead up to 15 pounds with it. Here's a 31 inch steelhead I caught in August with the rod:

I have no experience with the Loomis reels.

Thanks Andy - I take it you like the rod? any others in their line up in a similar price range you've tried or would rather have?

I also have the 9'9" 7wt GL3 with the Loomis venture 7. My gear takes a heck of a beatin and I'm very happy with this set-up.
I use it for winter and summer steel, coho and when in Alaska sockeye and pinks. $100 reels you can't go wrong with Loomis.

I have(4) 9'9" 7 wt GL3 for my clients and they are great rods and the currents match up nicely!
