So this may not get many great reviews here but I will ask the question anyways. I have a spot that the fish only eat the fish pellets they are fed, there are huge trout in this lake and I want to catch them, I am tired of getting outdone by huge bows that only like doggy food. I want to tie up some flies that look like the pellets but dont really know what they look like. Anyone ever done this? Or have any ideas for me. Thanks Guys

Brown chenille egg patterns, my guess if they are that large of fish, you're looking at a 5.0-8.0mm for size (I've very familiar with pellets:whistle:), ask Junkyardjeff how you can add the secret pellet scent to them:D Gink'em up so they'll float.

BTW, hard to believe they'll only take a pellet. Heck, the ones outside my window will take just about anything over the pellets we throw them most of the time:wink:

No personal experience, but under such challenging conditions I've heard of throwing a few pebbles in the water to simulate a pellet hatch.

I also go to a pond where the only thing they will eat is the fish pellets, its too bad but man they are some HOGS!

Years ago I used to fish the tailwater below Scoggings dam with a point and two dropper flies about 8" apart of peacock herl tied like glo balls. I greased the leader, but for some reason never the flies. Many times hooked multiple fish on a single cast. I finally felt it wasn't sporting and quit. They definately do work though and lot's of fun on the strike.

My friend had a fish farm on his lake and we used gold ribbed hare ears. and caught a lot of the fish that escaped from the net pens.

Just as a joke, my brother tied up a "pellet fly" form a piece of cork. This was his jest to the exact situation you are talking about. I know that it sounds a bit outside the relm of purity but it is an imitation of the food that the fish are keying on. It's also about the simplist fly you can ever tie. Shave a piece of cork to the shape and size of the pellets, then attach it to an egg or scud hook and volia! You now have the weapon you need.

I'll second Nookslayers advice. I've used this method in ponds where people throw breadcrumbs to the carp.

we used to tie up a "bread" fly on the east coast on some of the famous Pennsylvania spring creeks and knock them dead while the purists couldn't "match the hatch". The hikers along the streams would throw their bread crusts into the stream and the fish acquired a taste for it.
