Haven't fished for coho before but I plan on fishing the sandy and clack this year. For those who have fished them, what kind of water do you look for?
Thanks

Fast(er) pocket water and chutes seem to be where the biters hang out. It is very difficult to legitimately catch fish that are sitting in slow water pools :twocents:

Generally Coho like the same type of water as steelhead, only a little deeper. I have caught them in steelhead runs, pocket water and "frog" water. In the runs and pocket water, don't be surprised if you catch both Coho and Steelhead in the same water.
I have had some very successful days on Coho in quiet water (Frog water). You just need to change your gear and technique. I use a floating line, long leader and an unweighted fly. Cast upstream, let the fly sink and as the current catches the fly and line, start a retrieve with foot long strips. I have had Coho follow my fly all the way to shore using this technique and have missed strikes when I was lifting the line and fly out of the water for another cast.
