I need a VHF radio for my boat, and looking for some recommendations on what’s good, and do I need to stay away from. I currently only have a 5 watt Yasue HAM hand held radio with USCG freq's but want something geared for marine use.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Do a search for VHF's and you will see what most are buying. Typically, the go to radio is and Icom M422 or M504 depending on what features are important to you. Once you settle on what you want, drop me a line and I'll get you prices on a package ($325-$425.00. for radio (Icom 422 or 504), antenna (digital 529) and HD stainless antenna mount.)

Yaesu makes good gear - I've owned lots over the years. Standard Horizon is Yaesu's marine division for what that is worth. I still prefer the Icom gear over SH, but either will do well for you.
Not sure if you are licensed or not, or how much you know about antenna design, but take a strong look at the Digital Antenna Marine antennas series 500 or 800. Very well made antennas. If you search around you will find about a million posts on radios - just stick  my moniker in the advanced search with VHF as the keyword.
